Officers arrived to a house in the 7500 block of Grand Brooks Road at around 1:50 p.m., where they pulled the body from the house fire and later officials realized the man had been hit with a bullet before the fire, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner's vehicle was found in Louisa County earlier that day, which had apparent damage from an accident and was set on fire, authorities reported.
The suspect, 37-year-old Christopher Brown, barricaded himself in his house and attempted to flee from police when their investigation led them to Brown, officials said.
Authorities said Brown was charged with murder in the second degree, arson, and grand larceny auto.
He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond, police said.
The identification of the victim was not released.
